BAY COUNTY, Mich. — Family, friends, and members of the Saginaw Township and St. Charles communities are mourning the tragic and heartbreaking loss of 5-year-old Malik Manuel and 34-year-old Tyler Ostrander, who were killed in separate crashes on US-10 on June 3, 2026.
According to authorities, the first crash occurred when a semi-truck hauling a tanker of diesel fuel slowed due to traffic on westbound US-10. A Nissan Rogue subsequently rear-ended the semi-truck, triggering a devastating chain-reaction collision involving another vehicle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed that Malik Manuel, a young passenger in the Nissan Rogue, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His mother, who was driving the vehicle, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries as the family now faces an unimaginable loss.
During the extended road closure and ongoing investigation, a second fatal crash occurred later that morning in the same westbound lanes of US-10. Authorities reported that a Ford Focus failed to slow for stopped traffic and struck a box truck, resulting in another multi-vehicle impact. The driver of the Ford Focus, identified as 34-year-old Tyler Ostrander, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sudden and separate losses have left two families and multiple communities grieving in profound sorrow. Malik’s passing has deeply shaken the Saginaw Township community, where a young life full of promise was tragically cut short. Tyler’s death has also left loved ones in St. Charles mourning a life ended far too soon.
As news of the crashes spread, friends, relatives, and community members have shared condolences, prayers, and messages of support for the families affected. The tragedies have left a deep emotional impact across the region, as residents come to terms with the scale of the loss.
Authorities continue to investigate both crashes and are working to determine the full circumstances that led to the fatal incidents. Officials have not released additional details at this time.
Though their lives ended in tragedy, Malik Manuel and Tyler Ostrander will be remembered by those who loved them for the moments shared, the joy they brought, and the memories that will continue to live on.
May they rest in peace.
