MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio — Family, friends, and members of the Zanesville community are mourning the tragic loss of Robert Murgatroyd, 50, who died following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Muskingum County on the morning of June 5, 2026.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 10:33 a.m. near milepost 151 on the westbound side of Interstate 70.

Investigators reported that a 2008 Kia Rondo, driven by a Pennsylvania man, experienced a flat tire while traveling westbound. Authorities said the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to move toward the median. The Kia subsequently re-entered the left lane of traffic, where it collided with a 2017 Ford F-150 driven by Robert Murgatroyd.

The impact forced Murgatroyd’s pickup truck into the right lane, where it struck a 2014 International semi-truck. Following the secondary collision, the Ford F-150 left the roadway and overturned.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted lifesaving measures. However, Robert Murgatroyd was pronounced dead by the Muskingum County Coroner.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and has not released any additional findings regarding contributing factors or potential charges.
