Benard Duane Montez Watts and Diandra Young Johnson Death: Birmingham Shooting Leaves Two Dead and Multiple Injured

The city of Birmingham, Alabama is reeling after a shooting on Holley Avenue that left seven people injured and two fatalities. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Holley Avenue during the evening of June 4, when gunfire erupted at a gathering, sending shockwaves through the surrounding neighborhood.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the victims who lost their lives were identified as Benard Duane Montez Watts, 50, and Diandra Young Johnson, 33. Both were transported to UAB Hospital following the shooting but were later pronounced deceased despite medical efforts to save them.


Scene of Chaos on Holley Avenue

The Birmingham Police Department reported that officers responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. to multiple emergency calls reporting gunfire. When first responders arrived, they encountered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds and a chaotic scene involving numerous shell casings scattered across the area.

The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service assisted in transporting victims to nearby hospitals while police secured the area and began an intensive investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest the shooting occurred during a gathering where an altercation escalated into gunfire. Investigators recovered more than thirty shell casings, indicating the severity and intensity of the incident.


Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made as of yet. Detectives continue to interview witnesses, analyze physical evidence, and review any available surveillance footage in an effort to determine what led to the outbreak of violence.

Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
